The A4 Academics summer camp experience (for children from JK to Grade 8) is designed to support and encourage your child’s growth both academically and socially over the summer. Through fun and engaging math and literacy themes carefully crafted in accordance with the Ontario curriculum, your child will build upon his or her current abilities and hone their skills, better preparing them for the expectations of their upcoming school year. All themes and camp activities, taught by Ontario Certified Teachers, are designed to extend your child’s understanding of curriculum concepts through exciting, real world tasks. At the completion of each weekly theme, your child will have gained educational ground and taken positive strides towards a successful transition in September. At A4 Academics, we go beyond the traditional camp experience, promoting both the social and academic growth of your child.

“Summer Slide” or “Summer Setback” refers to the loss of academic skills that happens over the summer holidays. Studies show that children who do not have academically stimulating summer environments actually have lower literacy and numeracy skills when they return to school in September. Summer holiday creates two months of lost instructional time, which is equivalent to nearly a quarter of the previous school year. If children are not learning in summer, they risk falling behind in school. Students need to be intellectually stimulated all year long if parents want their children to be better prepared for academic success.

At A4, we understand parents’ concerns about the loss of academic skills over the summer holidays. Instead of risking a loss of skills and knowledge, students should be encouraged to activate and exercise the academic skills they learned throughout the school year. Our summer program is a time for students to deeply explore their interests, while further developing their skills.
